Helping the community is part of our mission, here at Carlino’s. Each month, we participate and serve in local charitable efforts in order to help make a difference in the community. In fact, we more than like- we LOVE it.. We like to highlight those charities to help them garner more, worthy publicity. Each month, we’ll preview or review an event(s) we are involved with to enhance our community.
The foundation that we are involved with during the month of September 2016, is one that has become close to our hearts. The Calliope Joy Foundation is a foundation near and dear to our hearts and was founded by a tremendous young woman and her family.

Calliope (pronounced ka-LYE-ah-pee) Joy Carr, nicknamed Cal, is the youngest child of Pat Carr and Maria Kefalas. Cal was diagnosed with late-infantile onset metachromatic leukodystrophy at the age of 2. Cal is now 6 years old and receives hospice care at home. Because of her amazing nurses and doctors, she laughs and smiles every day.
In 2013, Cal’s family started fundraising by selling cupcakes because they wanted to help children with leukodystrophy. Since that time, “cupcake celebrations” hosted at schools, churches and businesses have sold 25,000 cupcakes and raised $250,000 to establish the nation’s first Leukodystrophy Center of Excellence at the world-renowned Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. We believe “cupcakes can change the world.”

Carlino’s is a proud presenting sponsor for the event. We will also enter one of our cupcakes into the 4th annual Cal’s Cupcake Challenge held at Cynwyd Elementary School in Bala Cynwyd. Proceeds benefit the Calliope Joy Foundation and kids with leukodystrophy.
